Desk Jobs and Why They Are Killing Us!

This is something that I deal with daily and I think a lot of you do too. So I am here to give you my (not so professional) advice. I have ALWAYS dealt with a sore back and neck almost my whole life. Especially since that’s where I hold all my stress. When I got my first job I would stand for about 10 hours a day! I worked that same job for 7 years and all I wanted was a desk type job because my feet hurt so bad!! So that’s when I decided to do eyelash extensions. So now I sit for 8 plus hours a day…and I’m lucky if I get to stand up for 3-5 minutes in an hour (let’s be real) or two. Let me tell you I thought my body hurt then. Boy was I wrong! I definitely didn’t know what I had back in the days with a standing and walking around job. Yes, my feet killed and my legs were sore along with my back but it doesn’t even come close to the way my WHOLE body aches now. This isn’t to complain I promise. It’s actually to give anyone dealing with this pain some hope! I mean, if we could all just get a massage every day life would be rainbows and butterflies. That just isn’t realistic now is it? So here are some things I try to do to help my poor ol body out! (This post is not paid or sponsored in any way. These are products I use and 100% recommend them.)

This foam roller is a LIFE SAVER! I will use this in-between my clients when my back is aching. The best thing about it is when you lay back to roll out it pushes your back the opposite way that we hunch forward while we are sitting. When we sit we tend to hunch our backs, especially if we sit for long periods of time. The best thing about this foam roller is that when you lay back on the roller it pushes your back forward in the opposite direction that it was in while sitting in that hunched position. It gives instant relief. It takes a little bit to get use to but when you do, you can finally relax and melt into the foam roller that’s when the magic happens! My back will pop almost every time and I truly can’t get enough of it! You don’t have to use one that has the squishy bumps on it but I prefer to use this particular kind because it is softer and I feel like I can melt more into the roller. That is just my opinion.

Next is one of my personal favorites! DoTERRA’s Deep Blue Rub. It is super quick and easy to apply on my sore spots and I’m usually “good to go.” I will do a quick rub on my neck, shoulders, lower back, arms or hands and even bring it to my ears, jaw, and temples if I have a headache. (Geez, I sound like I have a million problems!) This rub has wintergreen, camphor, and peppermint as the main ingredients so if you have sensitive eyes you might want to go easy on your ears, jaw and temples.

What this product does is penetrates into the sore muscles and releases the tension and aches. It is similar to an Icy Hot rub. I just personally LOVE this one! But then again I did grow up using essential oils so I am PRO oils! If that’s such a thing (haha!)

Ok when I used the term life saver before I now mean it even MORE! These Thermacare heating pads are miracle workers! I only use this on days when my back is on fire! And I mean on FIRE!!!!! Have you ever changed a light bulb and the bulb was just a little too high so you really had to reach for it? Then all of a sudden your shoulders started BURNING and all you could think about was being finished so you could put your arms down? You might have even broken into a sweat because you were not quite finished and you didn’t want to break the glass to your light fixture by just giving up. Well, that’s how it feels when I am bending over for HOURS doing lashes. (Lash artists are nodding their heads right now possibly trying to hold back a tear or two because you know the pain that I’m talking about) Well imagine that fiery burn and you still have 3 more clients to get through, meaning 3 to 4 hours left!  That is when “this baby” comes into play! This heats up using your own body’s heat and stays hot up to 16 hours! You can get the stick-on kind or they have velcro ones. This also comes in handy when that “time of the month” decides to arrive on your longest workday! (Insert all the curse words you need to right here.)

Remember when I said if we could have a massage every day life would be great? Well this is the second best thing! This Pure Wave is by far the best hand held massager I’ve ever tried! It comes with six different attachments. You can use this on all of your sore muscles. I will use this in-between clients or at the end of my day. Of course it feels better when someone else does it for you, but it still feels really good when you massage it on yourself. This has saved the day more than once for me! I cannot say it enough…this baby is worth every penny!

When all else fails use a ball! You can use any ball you have around the house; a tennis ball, baseball, softball or a golf ball will work. I personally love the tennis ball because it has a little give so I’m not killing my back! The harder the ball is the more pressure it will apply on your back. You can lay down and roll on the ball and target an exact area (I use this for my shoulder blades and neck) or you can stand against a wall and roll it along your spine. If I do this every night after work my back is in much better condition! I almost don’t even need my weekly massage (who am I kidding I LIVE for that day! Thankfully my mom is a massage therapist! Thanks Mama.)

Last but certainly not least! Dr Teal’s products are so incredible! If you haven’t used Epsom Salt in the bath you need to TONIGHT! Sprinkle one cup of salt into your bath and soak for ten minutes immersed in the water from your neck down and you have yourself a detox bath! You can literally see the toxins in your bath when you get out! It’s crazy! If you do this before bed your aches and pains will be so much more tolerable! I have even done this between my clients if I have 10-20 minutes to spare! Add a little bubble bath (or a bath bomb) and a candle and you will feel so relaxed you will want to climb right into bed! Lavender is a calming oil it’s my person favorite. I have also been waking up 15 minutes earlier to start my day with an Epsom Salt bath and I swear it helps me feel happier during the day!

I have also found that working out, walking, and trying to be active on my off time really helps keep my muscles happy! Drinking LOADS of water is good too, it detoxes and cleanses the body. Stretching or doing relaxation yoga will also help! I’d love to hear what has worked for you! Leave a comment if you have any recommendations! Thanks for reading! Until next time my Beauties!
